In fact, the trekking area is covered by Sagarmatha National Park with a total area of 1148 km². However, the region’s vegetation varies within the area: From lushing pine, hemlock, fir, juniper, birch, the famous rhododendrons, and many more alpine plants, over to bare rock and snow in Gorak Shep. Furthermore, not only the region’s flora is colorful: Sagarmatha National Park is also home to the Himalayan Tahr, Ghoral, Serow, and Musk Deer. In addition, this route does not only lead you to Everest Base Camp, but also to the beautiful lakeside village of Gokyo. To reach Gokyo, we will have to pass the Cho-La Pass of 533om altitude. Early morning after breakfast from the hotel, we take an around 30 minutes flight to Lukla. On the way, we will be blessed to see the stunning view of Himalayas. Walking along the Dudh Koshi river with few ascents and descents we arrive in Phakding after 4-5 hours. Overnight in the teahouse lodge. Walking time: 5 hours
After breakfast, we start our trek towards Namche Bazaar crossing suspension bridge and on the way, we will enter the Everest conservation area where our permits are registered at monjo village. You will be walking through the alpine forest to arrive at Namche from where you will see the first sight of Mt. Everest. Overnight in the tea house lodge. Walking time: 5 hours
This day is specially for acclimatization to the altitude. Rest and after breakfast, walk around the Namche Bazaar. You can find banks, internet, bakery and small shopping places. If you are interested, there is the option to hike around the Khumjung village: It is a steep walk for 2 hours. Arriving at the Khumjung village gives you the chance to visit the Monastery and enjoy the local livelihood.
Today while walking the trail through Dudh Kosi valley, we would get the chance to view the Range of snow capped Mountains. Enjoy the significant view of Dudh Koshi valley and Tengboche Monastery before arriving the Phortse Thanga village. We continue walking through the Dudh Kosi valley and before arriving in Dole we will be walking up and down in alpine rhododendron forest. Grazing yak and their ringing bell on the neck welcome you on the way with the mesmerizing sound. The crystal-clear waterfall from the rock has another great impression before arriving in Dole. Overnight in the teahouse Lodge. Walking time: 7-8 hours
Today is a short trekking day, only a few hours ascend and descends through the thorny bushes brings us up to Luza from where we can view the range of snow capped mountain. After Luza the route ascends again crossing the prayer flags at some point again descend up to the machhermo concludes our walk. From Machhermo we must be very careful regarding AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). Walking time: 2-3 hours
We start our walking through Machhermo to Gokyo lake from the valley ridge, we we will be crossing few small lakes while descending along the rivers created from Ngozumpa Glacier the route is bit narrow before arriving at Ngozumpa, we arrive at Gokyo lake followed by Gokyo village. Walking time: 5 hours
After breakfast, we start climbing up towards the Gokyo Ri, trail is very narrow and difficult until we arrive the Gokyo Ri it’s around two and half hour walk. You will be rewarded with the world four tallest mountain Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu and Makalu Tabuche, along with the other mountains. After spending some time, we walk down to the Gokyo lake. After lunch, we continue our way to Thagnag Kharka. Walking time: 7 hours
After having an early breakfast at the lodge, we start our trekking as we are going to cross the Cho La pass (5370m) today! The high pass over the Cho La is a steep and somewhat difficult ascent of a rocky ridge for a few hours. We start by crossing a small glacial stream and then start climbing up the pass. From the top, we are treated to views of Ama Dablam, Kantai Ga, Thamserku, Taboche, Cholatse and Baruntse, Pasang Lhamo, and Numbur and on the Gokyo side. Once up on top of the glaciated pass, we trek across the snow. It’s a scramble back down the pass, a rocky, hilly trail across the valley, and a descent to Dzongla. Walking time: 7 hours
We are slowly getting closer to Everest Base Camp! Our way to Lobuche is relatively short today, to give us a little rest from yesterday’s strenuous walk. Walking time: 3-4 hours
After breakfast, we will start our walk to Gorak Shep. From here we will finally trek up to Everest Base Camp after lunch and enjoy the magnificent views of the mountains up close. Of course our trip also includes taking a look at the Khumbu Icefall. After exploring base camp and its surroundings glacier, we return back to Gorak Shep. Wonderful view of Mt. Pumori, Mt. Nuptse and other magnificent peaks, we complete our adventure for today. Walking time: around 5 hours
Early in the morning, we start hike up to Kala Patthar for the most wonderful sunrise views of Mt. Everest. After a little climbing, we arrive at the famous view point, the top of Kala Patthar. Now we have the best view of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Pumori and Ama Dablam along with the entire mountain views of Khumbu Himalayan range. Spending some time here to take stunning photographs and enjoy the moment, we hike back down to Gorak Shep.
On our way down to Dingboche we pass the Khumbu Glacier moraine with views on several great peaks – Khumbutse, Lingtren, Pumori and Mahalangur Himal. From here, we descend a steep trail to Chupki Lhara, where we find an array of stones with prayer flags used as memorials to Scott Fischer (American mountaineer) and 10-time Everest submitter Babu Chiri Sherpa (Nepali mountain guide) who perished on a mission to climb Everest. At Dingboche, we see a beautiful array of fields enclosed by stone walls to protect barley, buckwheat and potatoes from the cold winds and grazing animals. Walking time: 6-7 hours
The trek starts along the Imja Valley and Lobuche River when we start descending from Dingboche. The picturesque trail goes up to Devuche and crosses the Imja River. The upper Pangboche trails reward us with a more pristine view of the Himalayas and the Pangboche Monastery. This journey again rewards us with tremendous views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. We descent and ascent through forests filled with a variety of lush trees – birch, conifers and rhododendrons. Upon reaching Tengboche, we visit Tengboche monastery-the largest monastery in the region and soak in the views of Everest, Ama Dablam and other peaks. Walking time: 4-5 hours
While descending to Dudh Kish River, we enjoy not only the views of mountain tops like Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku and Kongde, but also beautiful and colorful rhododendron forests, until we arrive in Namche Bazaar. The traditional Sherpa village is one of the busiest villages in the Khumbu region with government offices, ATMs, Internet cafes, shops, restaurants, and a colorful market. In exploring Namche Bazar, we observe traditional Sherpa life, Khumjung Hillary School and enjoy flora and fauna found at such altitude. Walking time: 4-5 hours
Today will be the last day of our trekking so enjoy the walking to the fullest! We pass by beautiful the rivers and some more mountain views. Overnight at the lodge. Walking time: 6-7 hours
We take and early morning flight back to Kathmandu, where you have time to do some souvenir shopping. If you are interested, sightseeing in or around Kathmandu can be arranged, there are plenty of fascinating places to see!
